Woodwind, Recorder, Brass and Percussion  –  Classes 170 to 199

Class 170 – Woodwind and Brass Concerto

For players of woodwind (including recorder) and brass instruments. The winner of this class may be invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Solos Premier Class (see regulation 28).
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of any one concerto movement – not to exceed 10 minutes.
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 171 – Modern Woodwind and Brass Solos

For players of woodwind (including recorder) and brass instruments. The winner of this class may be invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Solos Premier Class (see regulation 28).
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music of an advanced standard written in a modern idiom by a 20th or 21st century composer – not to exceed 10 minutes.
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 172 – Woodwind and Brass Sonata

For players of woodwind (including recorder) and brass instruments. The winner of this class may be invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Solos Premier Class (see regulation 28).
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of one movement from any sonata – not to exceed 10 minutes.
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 173 – Woodwind and Brass Solos – Premier

For the winners of classes 170-172, 176, 180 and 185 (see regulation 28). A Glasgow Music Festival Association Award will be made.
Test Piece(s): Performers will play the Test Piece(s) already played.

Class 174 – Woodwind and Brass Solos (non-competitive)

For players of any standard not performing in classes 170-172 and 175-188. Performers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Own choice – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 175 – Woodwind and Brass Solos (adult performers)

For players aged 19 and over and not performing in classes 170-172, 174 and 176-187. Performers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Own choice – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 176 – Woodwind Solos – Open

For players of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone; with or without piano accompaniment. The winner of this class may be invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Solos Premier Class (see regulation 28).
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grade 7 or above – not to exceed 10 minutes.
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 177 – Woodwind Solos A

As for class 176, but for players not performing in classes 176, 178 and 179.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of one work or movement(s) from one work of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grades 5-6 – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 178 – Woodwind Solos B

As for class 176, but for players not performing in classes 176, 177 and 179.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of one work or movement(s) from one work of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grades 3-4 – not to exceed 4 minutes.

Class 179 – Woodwind Solos C

As for class 176, but for players not performing in classes 176-178.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 4 minutes.

Class 180 – Recorder Solos – Open

The winner of this class may be invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Solos Premier Class (see regulation 28).
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grade 7 or above – not to exceed 10 minutes.

Class 181 – Recorder Solos A

For players not performing in classes 180, and 182 -184.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grades 5-6 – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 182 – Recorder Solos B

For players not performing in classes 180, 181, 183 and 184.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grades 3-4 – not to exceed 4 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 183 – Recorder Solos C

For players not performing in classes 180-182 and 184.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 4 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 184 – Recorder Solos D

For players performing in classes 180-183.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 2 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 185 – Brass Solos – Open

The winner of this class may be invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Solos Premier Class (see regulation 28).
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grade 7 or above – not to exceed 10 minutes.

Class 186 – Brass Solos A

For players not performing in classes 185, 187 and 188.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of one work or movement(s) from one work of comparable standard to Associated Board and Trinity College Grades 5-6 – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 187 – Brass Solos B

For players not performing in classes 185, 186 and 188.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 4 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 188 – Brass Solos C

For players attending primary school and not performing in classes 185-187.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 4 minutes.
Entry fee: £12.00

Class 189 – Woodwind Ensembles A

For unconducted ensembles (which may include horns) of three to eight players, one player per part, and not performing in classes 190-193 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 190 – Woodwind Ensembles B

As for class 186 but for players not performing in classes 189, 191-193 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 6 minutes. Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 191 – Brass Ensembles A

For unconducted ensembles of three to eight players, one player per part, and not performing in classes 189, 190, 192, 193 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 192 – Brass Ensembles B

As for class 188 but for players not performing in classes 189-191, 193 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 6 minutes. Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 193 – Wind Ensembles

For unconducted ensembles of three to eight players of primary school age, one player per part, in any combination of woodwind and/or brass instruments. Players must not be performing in classes 189-192 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes. Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 194 – Orchestral Percussion Ensembles

For unconducted ensembles of three to eight players, one player per part, and not performing in classes 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 195 – Recorder Consorts – Open

For unconducted consorts of three to eight players, one player per part and not performing in classes 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 10 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 196 – Recorder Consorts A

For unconducted consorts of three to eight players, one player per part and not performing in classes 195, 197 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 197 – Recorder Consorts B

For unconducted consorts of three to eight players of primary school age, one player per part and not performing in classes 195, 196, 222 and 224. The ensemble may be accompanied.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 198 – Recorder Ensembles A

For six or more players aged 18 and under, any number of players to each part, with or without accompaniment and not performing in classes 222-224. The ensemble may be conducted.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 199 – Recorder Ensembles B

For six or more players of primary school age, any number of players to each part, with or without accompaniment and not performing in classes 198 and 222-224. The ensemble may be conducted.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 6 minutes.
