Scottish Country Dancing – Classes 501 to 509

Presented in association with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (Glasgow Branch)

Class 501 – Scottish Country Dancing

For dancers aged 18 and over who regularly attend a class. The RSCDS Glasgow Branch Quaich Certificate may be awarded.
Test Pieces:

(a) Any 8 x 32 Reel or Jig from any RSCDS Headquarters or Branch publication.
(b) Any 8 x 32 Strathspey from any RSCDS Headquarters or Branch publication.

Two couples dance Reel or Jig and two couples dance Strathspey.
Each dance to be performed 4 times through.
(If Branch publication, instructions and music must be sent with the entry form.)

Class 502 – Scottish Country Dancing (RSCDS books)

For dancers aged 18 and over who regularly attend a class. The RSCDS Glasgow Branch Quaich Certificate may be awarded.
Test Pieces:

(a) Any 8 x 32 Reel or Jig from RSCDS Books 1-28
(b) Any 8 x 32 Strathspey from RSCDS books 29-52

Two couples dance Reel or Jig and two couples dance Strathspey.
Each dance to be performed 4 times through.
Entry fee: £24.00

Class 503 – Scottish Country Dancing – Square Dance

For dancers aged 18 and over who regularly attend a class. The RSCDS Glasgow Branch Quaich Certificate may be awarded.
Test Piece: Square Dance – RSCDS Headquarters or RSCDS Branch publication.
(If Branch publication, instructions and music must be sent with the entry form.)

Class 504 – Scottish Country Dancing (18 and under)

For dancers aged 18 and under. The Marion B Hamilton Certificate may be awarded.
Test Pieces:

(a) Any 8 x 32 Reel or Jig from RSCDS Books 1-28
(b) Any 8 x 32 Strathspey from RSCDS books 29-52

Two couples dance Reel or Jig and two couples dance Strathspey.
Each dance to be performed 4 times through.
Entry fee: £24.00

Class 505 – Scottish Country Dancing (15 and under)

For dancers aged 15 and under. The Marion B Hamilton Certificate may be awarded.
Test Piece:

Either Reel: Reel of the 51st Division (8 x 32) (RSCDS Book 13)
or Jig: Ladies’ Fancy (8 x 32) (RSCDS Book 13)

Class 506 – Scottish Country Dancing (12 and under) A

For dancers aged 12 and under. The Marion B Hamilton Certificate may be awarded.
Test Piece:

Either Reel: Hedwig’s Reel (8 x 32) (from ‘Jigs and Reels’, RSCDS or ‘A Second Book of Graded Scottish Country Dances’, RSCDS)
or Jig: Lady C Bruce`s Reel (8 x 32) (from ‘Book of Graded Scottish Country Dances’, RSCDS)

Class 507 – Scottish Country Dancing (12 and under) B

For dancers aged 12 and under with little or no experience of Scottish Country Dancing. Dancers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Any 8 x 32 Reel or Jig from an RSCDS publication.

Class 508 – Scottish Country Dancing (10 and under) A

For dancers aged 10 and under. The Marion B Hamilton Certificate may be awarded.
Test Piece:

Either Reel: Galloway House (8 x 32) (from ‘Book of Graded Scottish Country Dances’, RSCDS)
or Jig: Le Papillon (8 x 32) (from ‘Scottish Country Dances for Children’, RSCDS)
