Class 207 – Vocal Recital

Please note that the number of entries in this class may be restricted. This class is excluded from the Ailie Cullen Concert.
Test Pieces: Own choice (see regulations 19-25). Each performer will be allocated a maximum of 15 minutes’ platform time in which to perform a varied programme of an advanced standard. The adjudicator will assess programme content in addition to musical performance.

Class 208 – Instrumental Recital

Please note that the number of entries in this class may be restricted. This class is excluded from the Ailie Cullen Concert.
Test Pieces: Own choice (see regulations 19-25). Each performer will be allocated a maximum of 15 minutes’ platform time in which to perform a varied programme of an advanced standard. The adjudicator will assess programme content in addition to musical performance.

Class 209 – Lecture Recital

Open to vocalists and/or instrumentalists. This class is excluded from the Ailie Cullen Concert.
Test Pieces: Performers will deliver a short lecture recital – not to exceed 10 minutes. The adjudicator will assess subject matter, oral presentation and musical performance.
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 210 – Composer’s Anniversary

For solo singers, instrumentalists or any combination of voice and instruments to a maximum of 16 performers.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music by a composer for whom the year in which the performance is given marks a 50th, 100th, 150th, etc anniversary of either birth or death – not to exceed 10 minutes.

Class 211 – Instrumental Duets – Open

For any instrumental duo with or without piano accompaniment, but not piano duets, or duets performing in classes 222 and 223.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25).
Entry fee: £24.00

Class 212 – Instrumental Duets A

For any instrumental duo with or without piano accompaniment, but not piano duets, or duets performing in classes 211, 222 and 223.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25).
Entry fee: £20.00

Class 213 – Vocal Solos with Instrumental Ensembles

For solo voice and instrumental ensembles, eg soprano, clarinet and piano etc.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25).
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 214 – Chamber Music – Open

For unconducted ensembles (excluding woodwind, brass, percussion and recorder groups) of three to eight players, one player per part, which may include a pianist, and not performing in classes 206 and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of any composition, not an arrangement, for the instruments in the performing ensemble – not to exceed 10 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 215 – Chamber Music A

For unconducted ensembles (excluding woodwind, brass, percussion and recorder groups) of three to eight players, one player per part, which may include a pianist, and not performing in classes 206, 213, 214, 216, 217, and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25). Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources – not to exceed 8 minutes.

Class 216 – Chamber Music B

For unconducted ensembles (excluding woodwind, brass, percussion and recorder groups) of three to eight players, one player per part, which may include a pianist, and not performing in classes 206, 213-215, 217, and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25). Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources – not to exceed 6 minutes.

Class 217 – Chamber Music C

For unconducted ensembles (excluding woodwind, brass, percussion and recorder groups) of three to eight players of primary school age, one player per part, which may include a pianist, and not performing in classes 206, 213-216, and 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25). Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 218 – Jazz Ensembles

For unconducted ensembles of three to eight players, one player per part and not performing in classes 222-224.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music which must include an element of improvisation – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 219 – Primary School Music Making

For children from a primary school (see regulation 9) not performing in class 222. Apart from the conductor, no adults may participate.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) of music for instruments, with or without voices – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 220 – Primary School Instrumental Groups

For children from a primary school (see regulation 9) not performing in class 222, playing any combination of orchestral and/or classroom instruments. Apart from the conductor, no adults may participate.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25). Performers may arrange the piece to suit their resources – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 221 – Pre-school Music Making (non-competitive)

For children of pre-school age. The ensemble may be of any size and type and may comprise singers and/or instrumentalists. Performers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 4 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 222 – Primary School Music Making (non-competitive)

For children of primary school age. The ensemble must comprise instrumentalists with or without singers. Performers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 6 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00

Class 223 – Secondary School Music Making (non-competitive)

For young people of secondary school age. The ensemble must comprise instrumentalists with or without singers. Performers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.

Class 224 – Music Making

For five to sixteen singers and/or instrumentalists using any combination of instruments and not performing in classes 210-223 and 225.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £35.00

Class 225 – Traditional Music Ensemble

For groups comprising any number of singers and/or instrumentalists not performing in classes 222, 223 and 224.
Test Piece: Own choice of traditional music (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 8 minutes.
Entry fee: £35.00

Class 226 – Family Music Making

For two or more performers from the same family and comprising any combination of singers and/or instrumentalists. Performers will receive an adjudication but no comparison will be made between performances.
Test Piece: Own choice (see regulations 19-25) – not to exceed 5 minutes.
Entry fee: £30.00
